    Use Exercise as a Tool

    Last updated 8 months ago

Some people love to exercise.  As weight loss surgery (WLS) returns their bodies to a healthier, more able form, they embrace exercise with a renewed vigor.  Other people do not love exercise, but know that if is considered an essential part of an effective WLS program.

If you are not fond of exercise, it’s time to work on changing your mind about it.  Exercise is your lifeline.  It will make your weight loss and maintenance much, much easier.  To make it more palatable, try something entertaining.  You can put on music and dance, ride a bike, buy an exercise video that appeals to you, garden, listen to a book on tape while you walk, or find a friend to walk with.  Exercise does not have to be torture.

    What is Gestational Diabetes?

    Last updated 8 months ago

Gestational diabetes, a temporary condition which affects five to seven percent of pregnant women, is brought on by certain hormonal changes. During pregnancy, the pancreas sometimes cannot produce enough insulin for the body to properly absorb glucose, resulting in high blood sugar levels. Fortunately, this condition can be controlled through careful attention to diet and exercise, with controlled gestational diabetes having no ill effects on either mother or baby. For more information on the causes of gestational diabetes, check out this video.

The OB/GYNs affiliated with Riverside Community Hospital can help you handle gestational diabetes as well as other pregnancy-related conditions. Call our Consult-A-Nurse healthcare referral line at (951) 788-3463 for physician referrals and answers to your health-related questions.
